Of course the Royal Mail employ a lot more than just postmen [postwomen ?]. All of these people have the same gilt edged benefits and a large number of them are also unskilled.
Hourly paid workers where I work could expect to earn around 12K/year... maybe GBP13.5K with overtime. Admin salaried workers here are on about GBP15K and are expected to work extra hours with no overtime. Neither group have final salaried pensions nor do they have any job guarantees nor are they unionized. They work extremely hard and are very appreciative of having a job. If the company fails, they will be out of a job with no comeback. Why should their taxes go to subsidize postal workers' and their benefits only to have them militate against the management of a failing organization - the results of which will cost many people in the private sector their jobs ?
