David, you say:-
"why should a company making millions of profit get away with destroying peoples lives just so that 1m can become 1.1m"
... and that contains EVERYTHING about this matter. You seem to be suggesting that the company is there for the WORKERS..... it is NOT and never SHOULD be! The compnay is there for ONE reason and one reason ALONE.... to make a PROFIT!
Having set up more than one business in my life, I can tell you that I did not do it for anyone else but ME (and my famnily, of course). There is not a businessman on this PLANET who took the risks of creating a business so he can create JOB! It's done for a PROFIT! No other ereason WHATSOEVER!
Do you really imagine that ANYONE would do it if it even a SMALL part of the duties of opening a business was: 'SOCIAL ENGINEERING'????? Such worker protection policies are part of the duty (if at all) of GOVERNMENT and should NOT be expected from profit making organisations!
But.... be FAIR; like me, you are a 'canny' buyer! I have never known you waste a PENNY on karting in your life..... and more power to your elbow for that! Like me, you do what you can for yourself and will make do, negotiate, do deals, ring-round etc. for the BEST price for items. So... if it is right for YOU to buy things on that basis, why is it wrong for people whose business involves buying postal services trying to get stuff at the BEST possible rate EXACTLY like YOU do?
Your stance appears to be that it's WRONG for businesses to keep their costs low IF it is a service you hardly use (e.g., the post office) but is PERFECTLY fair if it's a karting supplier.... that just is NOT fair!
