Starting from the last question....
YES ...... that's EXACTLY what I am saying.....!
Why SHOULD someone decide that they are 'too good' to do ANY job when they want **MY** money for NOT doing the job.......?????
When we were (supposedly) FLUSH with money, we could afford it..... now we CAN'T and, given a choice, I'd rather give MY taxes to Military\Police\Schools\Health in that order BEFORE giving it to those who ARE perfectly capable to taking a job! When I am going to be asked for MORE tax..... I want to be sure that the Govt. are USING my taxes PROPERLY .... first!
Next.... there would be FAR more jobs for the British workers if a few more of them started accepting jobs currently 'below' their 'dignity'! Again, why SHOULD dole-seakers be ALLOWED to chose what jobs they WILL and WON'T do???? It's MY money they want and it's for ME to set the terms....
By all means, let them CONTINUE looking for work of a 'higher status' than their 'current' job..... just like the REST of us........! Personally, if you'll pay ME to sit around waiting for the PERFECT job .... I'll JOIN the dole queue. What the rest of us have to do is to CONTINUE working while LOOKING...... I am just asking the SAME duties for the scroungers.
Taken to it's extreme.... why NOT get the fit and health dole seekers to do something that we WANT done during working hours FOR their money? There are MILLIONS of jobs that COULD be done by dole seekers that simply are NOT being done at the moment. It would NOT be putting other workers OUT of work if they were asked to DO it becasue it ISN'T being done at the moment. (e.g., helping insulate communitry housing, labouring on road repairs, cleaning motor-way hard-shoulders, repairing older schools, etc. etc. etcc.. Why SHOULD I pay MY taxes so that someone else can spend their day wathcing day-time TV....??
You CLAIM that the current levels are too low..... so why IS it that the 'ex-students' are refusing the menial jobs? It can't be TOO low if they are better-off, financially, ON the dole than they are in ANY work!
We still keep coming back to what I see as being the problem...... why SHOULD we be asked to pay for people to sit around when it's just that they don't FANCY the jobs?????
Let me stress once again..... almost NOBODY would be allwoed to fall THROUGH the safety net! I'd just set the net SIGNIFICANTLY lower so that there was a STRONG encouragement to TAKE a 'menial' job! Again, if there ARE no jobs... they could NOT fall through my net as it depends on REFUSING a job!
