I have been riding a sports bike for a short time now. My daughter also rides a sports bike. The difference is mine is restricted to 33bhp and hers is not, therefore developing about 110bhp. We have been on ride outs with various clubs and I would admit to riding faster than my daughter despite the huge power difference, for those not familiar with the modern 600cc bike, trust me, no one can describe the performance, only having been on one can anyone understand. I endeavor to ride as safely as possible taking up a position on the road allowing me to see as far as will allow me to stop with in the distance I can see to be safe. However, I have seen riders hanging off the side of bikes, entering corners as if they were taking part in a Moto GP. Their life expectancy is proportional to how lucky they are.
It is unfair to brand all motorcyclists as unsafe and not include some of our less talented car drivers. I would guess our cluttered roads could be cleared by over 50% by introducing repeat driving tests and almost all test failures would be due to a lack of observation.
In the few years I have been riding a bike, any accident I have seen involving a motorcycle and car, has been the result of the car driver not seeing or not looking to see the bike coming.
