nah, its not a recent epiphany, but in the last 15 or so years things have changed a lot
fixing costs and testing was a major mistake
its (was) a team "sport" (activity) where raising the cash was part of the game.
even the engineers cant get too creative now as the other teams say the advances will cost them more to replicate, and so they get banned or frozen.
it doesnt seem to know if it wants to be a single make formula or not. i guess this hinges on motor manufacturers being interested or not. i imagine it will become a single make eventually and then a drivers championship actually would have some credibility.
its very weird what goes on currently tho. and if someone tried to replace it with a fair championship you can imagine the lawsuits involved.
its a bit sad when the best comparison of drivers' talents is the top gear lap board
