FIrst of management of this disorder will be your best bet. There are basicly 2 types of bruxists, the worst being "Clenching Parafunctionists". Those are people who clench there teeth while they're queing for their McFlurry's, or waiting for trains!.
Your TMJ joint, thats the joint that allows your mandible to move, it has a disk with 4 muscles that control mastication. UNfortunatley they go haywire sometimes, and the elastic cartilage holding this disk can deteriate with age and TMJ abuse, leaving some people in painfull lock-jaw, or more commonly very tender muscles on the side of the face, with ear/headache and "Clicking" sounds.
trust me, it gets worst over time if left unmanaged.
Ask a professional to teach you some jaw exercises, and if you have an acute attack, ice packs and ibuprofen work wonders.
Good luck, and invest in a soft nightguard, and maybe even a hard acrylic one for karting etc. I make quite a few, and you wouldnt believe how many people chew through them.
good luck, I suffer from it a bit too, i like to mash my teeth in my sleep!
