Oddly enough, as we can see from the accidents that happen in karts and cars.... it's NOT just the speed..... it's the mass of the vehicle and how it folds around you. Look at F1 cars.... they take MONSTEROUS shunts now BUT the tub (has recently been) almost penetration and 'collapse' proof. The tub STAYS intact and prevents the occupant being crushed.
In karts, we have almost NO structure around us and carry almost ZERO mass.... so.... when WE hit things, the karts don't tends to crush us, either..
However, with normal cars (road and stock for examples).... there IS sufficinet mass and there is NOT a hugely strong structure around the driver. Yes... there/'s a roll cage but that's not in the LEAGUE of the F1 tub.
