Newshound..... You don't quite get the idea of 'simile' do you.....?
The idea was the CONCEPT. You might just as well argue that Gillard's relationship to karting is NOT the same as Tesco's to their stores; or that Gillards doesn't HAVE a PR dept.; or that there are more LETTERS in Gillard77 than Tesco..... etc.. Each of THOSE are also irrelevant to the subject of the simile.....
The point was that.... IF Tesco do their best to avoid ANY bad publicity..... ask yourself WHY they do it. If you can see WHY a company wants to mantain good 'PR' then, perhaps, you'll see why WE might want to do the same.
*********
Having said all that, be FAIR...... Gillard's title is not exactly NEUTRAL, is it?
He did NOT state:-
"Man dies at kart track"
He stated:
"Chap dies in kart CRASH..."
That contains the implication that it was the CRASH which killed him....
None of us know the FACTS yet but, from the rumours, the correct title appears to be:-
"Heart attack kills man at kart track."...... and are we SURE that's what we need to say BEFORE we know the facts?
I am NOT for hiding the news; mererly wanting to make sure that it does NOT carry the WRONG spin/implication!
I suspect this is what Rene was meaning!
