Have a look at Brooklands College in Weybridge, it's a bit of a journey but is on a main line train station and they arrange for students to stay with a host family (i think it's about 50 a week).
What they offer is a 2 year Foundation Degree once you have your National Diploma or Certificate in Motorsport Eng. (you can also take that there too). The 2 year Foundation Degree is about 1500 a year, so more or less 2000 cheaper than going directly to Brookes. Once you are accepted onto the FD you are guaranteed a place at Oxford Brookes for your third year to finish your degree, if you wish.
They have links with McLaren, who are just down the road, and are close to Mercedes Benz World. This offers students the chance to progress in some type of work experience, and last year a girl from the FD Brooklands Course was taken on by McLaren and now works 4 days a week for them and is continuing her degree in the 5th.
Definitely worth a look, saves a load of money at the end and it is a very good and recommended college.
(I have also done the course there)
