Because they think the zombie slasher in the cellar is worse than the mad teenage serial killer with a chainsaw in the forest.

Ther is only one proper solution. Go onto the roof and hurl yourself at the ground....and miss.

This explains why those who do jump of roofs do so. They have such a low self-esteem, they've been told so often that they are an utter failure, that it becomes a win-win situation.

If you do miss, you have invented a form of transportation that man has been seeking for millions of years and should make a fortune. Alternatively, if you do hit the ground, you have the satisfaction of showing people that you were successful at something and they were wrong.
