I remember an expert saying after the 2004 boxing day tsunami that this could be the start of a very active time in the region for earth quakes (for about 200 years), presumably 'the ring of fire'. Interestingly enough, although it feels like he was right - other experts are playing this down, saying its 'too early to tell'. At some point someone has to say that the earth is going through an above average active period volcanically and earth quakes. It seems to be rare that this major quake came 2 days after a 7.2 hit the same region. There could be some big after shocks with this one.

Theres one of these similar fault lines just off the north west coast of the USA. Any resulting tsunami from big quake would have little warning in that region. Thoughts to those effected.
