But if you spent that amount of time and attention on any other marque, wouldnt the other marque be more reliable still?!
The rust problems of the late 70's were,I was told, down to Alfa (and Lancia)using cheap ComEcon (Soviet)steel that was very poor quality at the time. Unless you saw it you just can't believe how bad it was. Back then, I remember on my walk to school a guy parked a white Alfasud and I saw it from brand new most days. Within 3 months it had paint bubbles on the roof (!), within 6 it had nasty brown stains running from broken paint most everywhere. Within a year the wings were flapping rustily in the breeze. Awful. Most 10 year old cars these days are not even showing significant rust anywhere! Mind you - some people never learn because it disappeared to be replaced by a Lancia Beta Monte Carlo and his problems really began!
