Take lots of warm clothing. I went to Silverstone this year and it was bitterly cold and wet. I was GA too, but was in the grandstands for practice and even in the centre of a large grandstand I was getting soaked by horizontal rain!
Also, if you're not too bothered about the podium (ie if Alonso wins) then you can run to your car that you packed earlier that day and save 3 hours of queueing by leaving before everyone else.
Kangaroo TV's are pretty cool, share one between 2 of you. Probably not worth it if it was just for 1 person though.
If you want a trackside spot for the race, you need to be there before 6am. We got into the circuit at 6 and everywhere was already taken.
Failing that, a nice spot infront of a big screen and next to a speaker will suffice.
