I've got an 04 transit connect which I've owned for the last 3 and half years and I've put 80k on it. The only major problem was when the oil cooler ruptured and the cooling system filled with oil. Not a massive repair - 70 for a used oil cooler and thorough cleaning out of the cooling system. The fly by wire throttle also had to be replaced which cost about 200 to get a brand new one fitted at a garage. They do wear tyres abnormally although the reason for this is seemingly unknown but they all do it. As previously suggested keep an eye on pressures. Personally I think the sidewalls deform under cornering but that's just IMHO. I've tried various tyres (Avon, Firestone, Pirelli) and I've heard the tyres wear better with iirc the continentals but I generally use hankook and replace them when they're shot because they're comparatively cheap. Oh and I drive the backside off it. Over the years I've had 3 full size transits (generally reliable) a scudo (fell apart) 2 vivaros (both gearboxes and clutches failed at around 60 - 80k along with the rest of the fleet) my current transit connect and I also own an old T4 transporter which is nowhere near as good as I was led to believe - nothing wrong with it but it drives like a pig and its noisy. Luckily I will only have to put up with it when we're karting...
