Old age has some slight benefits: we remember past events quite well.

When Lotus had Mario and Ronnie in 1978, and Mario was team leader, Ronnie was regularly faster. Ronnie was a gentleman but not a fool. His technique was to follow in Mario's wheel tracks and, occasionally, to pull-out, alongside..... just to show that he COULD go by if he wanted to..... but didn't.

Mario argued that Ronnie was being unfair as Mario had moved into 'cruise' mode as they were, almost invariably, in 1 and 2 position and thus he was mererly 'stroking' the fantasitic Lotus 78 and Lotus 79 of that era. However, Ronnie stuck to his word EVERY time but sent the message he wanted to send.....

So good was he at this that many of us remember this 35 years later.....

Many of us still deeply miss you, Ronnie!
