That article is just stating EXACTLY what I stated: 'they knew the risks' and 'they still want to race'......
So why didn't that same argument apply to...
Nurburgring Old Spa Old Clermand Ferrand Mille Miglia Etc. Etc. Etc.
?
I used to use the argument that most Gladiators were VOLUNTEERS (very highly paid volunteers, mind you!). Many of those died in fights (not all by any means): they knew all the risks and they still wanted to fight..... should we still allow gladiatorial combat to the death for EXACTLY the same reasons?
Those of us who were around when racing stopped at Nurburgring heard EVERY ONE of those arguments used about THAT track....... but common sense prevailed and we CLOSED it for most races! We heard those arguments for all the OTHER race tracks what were forced to close or adapt, too!
Face FACTS..... over the 100 plus years of the TT, 2 riders are killed on average EVERY YEAR. How many riders per year would it take to get this damned race stopped? 10, 50, ALL OF THEM????? Or would you STILL be saying 'they know the risks' if it DID kill EVERY RIDER, EVERY YEAR?
As I said, please confirm you would NOT be arguing for significant, effective changes in (for example) the TKM festival if IT killed 2 drivers every year.
We seem to be saying.... "stupidly high lethal risks are NOT tolerable for F1 drivers and Kart racers but..... these guys are only motorcyclist so.... who cares?"
Please note, I am NOT saying they are expendable.... it's those of you who support this race that ARE saying exactly that!
