Oddly enough, I attended a Neurosurgeon's conference in Boston last October and satin on some of the Key-Note speakers, just for 'fun'. One of the headline speakers was the Neurosurgeon/Medical Adviser to the NFL (National Football League?). They have recently become VERY strict on 'no second concussion' rule. Evidence and examples of the effect of repeated concussions was given.... this was NOT for the squeamish! As a non-medic, it certainly had an effect on me! Their time limit was less than 21 days (2 weeks if I remember correctly) but......
Another headline speaker was one of the ex-players and spokesman for the Ice Hockey league (whatever that's called). He was really proud that their time limit had been strictly enforced in recent years.... they set their limit at..... 24 hours ...... which left me STUNNED..... along with the Ice Hockey Players.
It makes the decision to allow George North to play on after the first concussion questionable to say the VERY least. The second concussion seemed momentary but...... bl**dy H*LL!
Having seen the physical changes demonstrable in such cases, I think Alonso and his medical team are unquestionably RIGHT.
Damned shame though that he won't be there at the start of the season. So far, 2015 hasn't been good to Ron Dennis!
