He's actually wanting to get a samsung LCD 40", it's got a red tint on the shell, trouble is I've read up a review on it and it said that it was a really good T.V with a very impressive picture quality, but then it went on to say that in gaming mode there was a noticable lag in the faster games. It said that sensitive gamers would notice it and when they played call of duty 4 on it for some reason they seemed to get less headshots than when played on a Sony in the same price category.
This is what the main problem is with these T.V's, they always seem to have one bad point. I must admit I am rather disappointed that the majority of LCD's have still not managed to overcome this motion blur.
I think what I might do is try to encourage him to spend less money for a 32" and tell him to think about getting a OLED when the prices come down a bit in a few years time. If OLED looks as good as I've read about, then OLED is definately the way to go in the future. They're even developing bendable OLED screens now and they reckon that they will be able to create 3D t.v's using the OLED technology. I think it has something like 1,000,000 (1 million) to 1 contrast ratio on them.
