Nick, the maintenance ruse is a good one !!
Send your production workers home on pay , switch off all the heating ,get maintenance staff in all in thermal gear, then claim Government Grant for their re-training in the art of looking after a plant with new machinery and Dies for the new model that at the moment without Mr Obamas gang sending over a few million dollars in Feb 09 will possibly never see the light of day,
(something close along these lines anyway ) alledgedly.
Knock on door in ten minutes, Police raid with no warrent for leaking top secret and sensitive, not for general consumption information.
My factory (only 15 people)have been on a voluntary 3 day week for 5 weeks to stave off initially the threat of a couple redundancies but now the threat of closure is hanging over us, mainly due to the BIG boys holding back payment for work done, many others are in a similar situation ,in the meantime we have to keep trying to carry on paying our bills,Credit Cards maxed, bridging loan, cancel works do,no bonuses after working their socks off all year, essential mileage only, sell a van. The big boys Credit Control staff who pay us tiddlers however are sitting at home on full pay until there is a decision on their future, tough eh. If us smaller players go to the wall, they won't have to pay us,don't seem to realise they will not be able to source specialist items and services as there will be no specialists when they return.
Government support for smaller companies struggling is a load of b'll''ks,it will be 6 months before anyone can send us the assistance package (re-payable with interest again 's )forms. The banks are not passing on all of last months cuts in interest yet, never mind yesterdays and thats from a banks that we the tax payers have bailed out
However the Government will not worry about us 15 workers and similar, ,they will bail out the big boys, their employees represent thousands of potential voters at the next Elections for being seen as GORDY's GOOD GUYS and saving them,by then all the smaller companies who support the big boys will probarbly have gone to the wall.
16 Engineering companies gone LAST WEEK never mind Woolies,PC World etc all wobbling.
