The point I am trying to make is that the car companies haven't done hardly anything to come up with something different that could make them loads of money in the long run. IMO they should have mass produced a cheap electric vehicle that could do 70mph in under 7 seconds and looks cool like the mini or the smart (obviously not the same but something similar) and aimed it at city commuters who haven't got loads of money. If ford had done that they would have a vehicle that no one else was selling and that would mean they have a unique new market all to themselves with no competition leaving them in a more optimistic situation then they are in now.
It's no good making these types of cars for people with loads of money because they will always be able to afford the option of petrol/diesel or a greener, cheaper? fuel, which means they would be competing in the 'look what I've got' market rather than the 'how much will I save' market. Hybrid cars are just what it says on the label, in between market products so they don't appeal to the 'what can I save' market or the 'look what I've got' market and therefore are destined to be costly products that don't make very much money, if any at all.
