"just because he's not skilled enough to use his right foot to safely exit his drive" --- This made me laugh. How many accidents have you had Dan? Five was it?....and how many accidents have I had? Zero. So yes, of course you're a better driver than me Dan, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.
"We aren't that stupid not to realise that the greater the speed the greater the damage! And no one here is really advocating against low speeds through areas which need protecting (from high speed). So you can drop that one as well!" --- Err, but ALL areas need some form of protection. Or are there some magic roads that I'm unaware of, where it is impossible to have any kind of accident?
"we still need to get to work or wherever we are travelling! And we are an increasingly more mobile country with limited usable public transport, so we need to drive wherever we go! That means that blanket imposed slower speeds WILL soon grind the country to a halt! " ---Yes, that is why the limit is set to 70. If the goverment were truely safety crazy they might adopt the once American 55mph speed limit, or maybe less. At 70 the risks are **already** high, you can't just make those risks higher for everyone purely because you feel like it.
"Once again you skilfully sailed past the SAFETY argument in John and RoadRat's arguments! i.e. the fact that this mad attitude in imposed speed changes forces us to look at the speedo more often than we ought to (in fear of our license) more than we do so to the road conditions and hazards that we are negotiating!" --- Well, if you're telling us you're unable to control your speed without looking at your speedo every 5 seconds why don't you try going a bit slower, giving yourself a bit more breathing space between your speed and the limit. Thus you wouldn't need to look at your speedo as much, it's not rocket science surely?
