John, I AM one of those that has been driving motorbikes for years! And I believe I AM a better car driver because of it! I agree the campaign of 'take longer to look for bikes' is a good thing, im not sure EXACTLY how effective it is, but never the less it cant hurt! I take it into my own hands that people MAY pull out infront of me, hey pedestrians MAY run out infront of me - and thats going to hurt ME much more than if I was in a car!
Im not disputing that 'think car' campaigns would not be a bad idea at all - everyone should take some form of responsibility for their actions. However WHEN you are driving a HEAVY vehicle at a VELOCITY (ill bring F=ma back into it!) YOU are the one that is going to do the damage SHOULD an accident occur! Always expect the unexpected, and be ready to take evasive action should you be required to. Anyone that does NOT have that attitude should NOT be on the road!
Dan, whilst I agree! Educating the idiots that ARE ignorent enough towards the road and the people to use it. However 'They steped infront of me, therefore it was ok for me to mow them down' is NOT an attitude I think ANY driver of ANY vehicle (the object that is GOING to do the damage!) should addopt.
David - could not agree more!
Harv - A little extreeme installing spikes instead of air bags dont you think, not necisarilly a good marketing campaign as an optional extra for ANY manufacture!
We are NOT blindly believing that just speed kills! Just stating the FACT that it IS a MAJOR contribution in a live or die situation during an accident. Your right bad driving CAN kill, but bad driving at HIGH SPEED is FAR more likely to kill thant bad driving at a LOWER speed. My grandmother is highly unlikely to kill anyone on the road and she is a VERY bad driver! She just does it slowly!
Chris
