Nick has some good points - I would like to add:
This IS H1N1 'bird flu' virus - found about 4/5 years ago amongst bird farmers mainly, who when contracted had a high mortality rate - something like - if you got it, your dead.
Following it for many years - the major concern was the passing of H1N1 virus from birds to pigs. Its difficult for a human to contract bird viruses (H1N1) and easier to contract pig viruses(H1N1 swine version).
It was reported that a particular pig farm in mexico is where that happend earlier this year - H1NI bird - pigs - humans.
Its current mortality is low(in humans), however, I expect with a seasonal mutation, colder weather the mortality figures will change. 1/200 is a current estimate 10% would be a disaster. with 30% of the population likely to get it. Containment has now officially failed.
It has all the ingrediance the World Health Organisation and government know will become a MAJOR pandemic, it'll take a few years for the whole process to complete - we are probably in the middle of it all.
Previous Major events were 1918 and 1960's with one in the middle I think - google that for a fuller understanding of what is POSSIBLY ahead of us - then Buy a nice car.
