I did some agency work for the Royal Mail about 5 years ago and all I can say is that they work bloody hard. They walk about 20K a day with up to 25 kilo over their shoulders (they have 6 to 10 bags of up to 25 kilo), they all seem to have back problems of some sort.
I don't blame them for striking, pay is good but working conditions are pretty dismal. The need for money keeps them there but it's a cost to their health. Your average worker in the uk would get a mega shock to the system if they spent a day doing what a postie does.
The main problem in all of this is the government, they have part privatised the Royal Mail and that is the problem. They need to fully privatise it or not privatise it at all. Because of this it's dying a slow death as all the private companies take the profitable parts off the Royal Mail.
It's one big mess and strike action is the only chance it will get to sort the mess out.
Chris.
