The major flood is in the town where I lived and went to school in, so I know very well indeed the places being shown on the news. The bridge which went down is about half a mile from my home, so it is a case of "there but for the grace of God".
Two of my immediate colleagues have lost their homes, one has to arrange somehow to take his little girl to Newcastle for radiotherapy, so forgive me for not being too amused by the thread.
As for my comment, first part was to correct Newshound's factual inaccuracy, second was a statement of fact as some of the isolated Workington North has a certain reputation..
And for those who might live close to my former Bedfordshire home, Cumbria is the bit between the perceived NW of England and Scotland. It isn't in Scotland. (Dad was a copper for 27 years, so we moved about a bit)
Can we now call a halt to this thread?
