have to admit the football one was good!
Sorry - away from the PC and laughing at all the ministers coming out in support of poor old wee Gordon!
Back to the "challenge" and judging by subsequent messages it looks like Roadrat has beaten me to it and a far better person he is than I.
As for the "how would I deal with..." then if I felt as strongly as you did and were 100% content with my convictions - then on that particular subject, I'd ignore - simple as that.
That's one of the most common patterns on this website and its various forums. What starts out as a bona fide attempt to make a point often with some credible statements/facts - then gets personalised out of all recognition.
It's ok to disagree with someone by saying exactly that as in "I disagree full stop end of conversation" or to put forward the alternative theory/argument without referring to the originator's points or at least indirectly.
She was not my favourite person in fact probably in the bottom 3 but I once had a boss who went along to a meeting with me to confront another manager and her Director (he and my boss were equals) and she sat there and listened to a tirade of rubbish which surmounted to insults about what we had or had not done and then when that person stopped to draw breath, very calmly and with total clinical effect - took apart the arguments one by one by making material statements. Long before the end her opposite number knew he had been beaten and was severely embarrased - said "well thanks for that - must go." An object lesson in how to deal with rubbish.
NOW - do not think that I'm using Roadrat etc as the example here - simply making the point that there is more than one way to skin a cat or in this case - knock back a view.
But as I said befoe, I am honestly too ignorant on some of these subject matters to give a concise answer which of course doesn't stop me from commenting on general stuff or sticking my oar in when I feel like it.
I'm actually glad the editor forget to process my email asking for my account to be deleted. That said, I'm never going to reach 15k messages. Keep it coming!
