Hi Arran...good question
You may be surprised at this...but I WOULD (sorry for the caps!) agree to a power/ weight ratio limit to bikes....and also to cars.
No good restricting bikes to 50cc...you ever tried going uphill, two up, on a 50? However, the somewhat excessive power of some modern bikes is unnecessary for the road....as also for many cars.
Nevertheless, as newshound says..it is easy to kill yourself on a small bike.
It is the RIDER that is the problem...coupled with the other road users too. Having some form of experience requirement for larger bikes would help...but nothing will be a complete answer.
The only (and it is a very small one) defence of more powerful bikes over cars, is that a bike having a crash is likely to take out less other road users than a car..size does matter!
Banning them however, is no answer, unless we do it as part of a complete review of ALL our traffic laws, and increase training, make repeat tests mandatory, etc etc.
