OK, bit tongue in cheek but this is the scenario... I'm 50, my son is 21 years old and I have been playing him on Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3 and getting hammered (as you would probably expect) but I have always said I would be much better when we get a steering wheel controller and when we got one recently, I was - much better! Sooooo, Saturday afternoon, decided to get some practice in while he wasn't looking and started on an easy, high speed track (the Ring) at around 50 secs and got my times down to a pretty consistent mid 47's at which point, my son came in and asked to have a go. Literally four laps later, the smug git got up and said "Beat that" - he'd knocked over 0.6 sec off my best time! Some forty laps later, I'd managed to beat his best time by 2/100ths sec so, feeling chuffed with myself, I told him and he went on again and in just 5 b****y laps later, yes, he'd done me again, this time by another half a second - aaaaargh!!!!!! So, I am now in despair and at that crossroads in life...is that it now, do I need to hang up my helmet for good? Am I done as a racer? Is this my mid-life crisis? Do I need to go out and buy a Triumph Stag to restore my ailing self-esteem? Help me Obe-Wan-Itpro, you're my only hope...
